Happy Sunday, y'all. It's psychedelic daily a micro dose of news and culture from the frontlines of the psychedelic Renaissance. I'm Beau Ross in New Orleans. This is another special weekend edition where I deep dive into the archives tap into some of the rich history of psychedelia for some insights, some inspiration, maybe even some strategies for this modern psychedelic Renaissance. And today, I have something really special for you. It's a book that I'm 99% sure you've never heard of, and I'm 80% sure you're going to love it, and that it's going to become an essential part of your life. This book, it's an underground classic, you know, there's been a lot of talk in this psychedelic Renaissance, particularly in the medical department talk about whether or not the mystical experience is essential for real psychedelic healing, I find myself firmly in the camp that believes that it is particularly the kind of big picture long term healing that rewards you for many, many years, there might be some kind of psycho plastic gin that can give you immediate relief from an addiction or an anxiety but to have real change that lasts for years and rewards you throughout your life. I do believe you need the full blown, mystical experience. In fact, I think one of the great promises of psychedelic medicine is that it really democratizes the mystical experience and makes it accessible to people from all walks of life. For many years in the West, the mystical experience was the reserve of the intellectual, the academic people that had years to stare into their navels or traveled to India into a bunch of reading and contemplation. And yeah, it was a really privileged pursuit. But I believe the mystical experience is our birthright, it's in our blood, it's something that you can just grok now how you integrate it, how you make it a part of your life long term that might require some real work and reading that is, you know, kind of like what the academic and aesthetics have done for years, but the fundamental experience is, I believe, really accessible. Now, of all the books in the world that have made, the mystical experience seemed really simple, putting it into really plain language, there are only a couple I can think of that did it very well. The first was the book by Alan Watts full title was The Book, On The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are. And it's fantastic, and I might highlight it on a future deep dive into the archives. But even that book, Alan Watts was a great explainer. But he was an intellectual he was a literary gadfly. So even that book indulges in some pretty fancy literary flights. But there is one book that really articulates the mystical experience at a street level, with a kind of language that almost anybody could understand. And that book is called the Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment by Thaddeus Golas. This book came out in 1972, just as the 60s counterculture was coming to kind of a sad in after Altamont, he was an elder statesman of the 60s counterculture, he was 50 something when this book came out in 72. So he had a lot of reading and contemplation of this kind of mystical stuff. He had a lot of it under his belt, but he saw a bunch of kids around him having a real tough time digesting and integrating the sudden and powerful psychedelic experiences. And he wanted to give them a handbook, and a toolbox to help them understand what was going on in some of these levels. They were reaching suddenly, and from out of nowhere. And in the process of making this guide, he distilled millennia of Eastern mysticism, into this really simple, every man kind of language. And to this day, these simple principles of expansion and contraction and vibration levels. I've done a good deal of reading in the eastern mystical stuff. And by golly Thaddeus just gets it right. Like all the fundamentals are in this simple book. Now, I want you to hear from Thaddeus himself, and then we're going to get into the book. I've got the whole thing made into an audio book for you. This is a first this is zero reward for listening and you're going to want a real paperback copy of this book. You want to have it in your back pocket. There are a few available on Amazon. There's electronic versions, the Kindle, but this is one you're gonna want in your back pocket, you're gonna want that that really personal dog eared copy.
