Pilot + Flight Trainer  |  “The more humility we all approach situations with humility, the more we all feel respected.”
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. Nope, it’s actually Alex Okland! Everyone, join us in welcoming Alex, a seasoned pilot, to Practice First. Alex has been flying since he was 18 years old, and his love for planes, people, and practice is evident throughout this conversation with Ben. He’s worked as a private pilot, commercial airline pilot, and now instructor pilot for nearly 20 years, and he knows the thousands of hours of practice it takes to master the art of flying.
Here’s a high-level look at what we learned from Alex:
  • Flight crews often never cross paths more than once, so having universal training is essential
  • Pilots in training spend countless hours in simulators practicing every possible scenario
  • The key to a successful flight is discipline and focus—both of which come with practice
  • Aviation leadership looks like being an expert on processes and procedures
  • Generational differences in pilots make humility and respect more important than ever

When Alex isn’t up in the sky, you can find him down on the ground spending time with his wife, Stacy, or their three kiddos in Atlanta, GA.
