This episode we're talking with Michael Allwight, a founder of Cafe Art in Sydney, Australia and Minerva Community Service. Michael had always wanted to begin something he could devote himself to and had various different ambitions over the years before deciding what he wanted to do. This indecision was solved when he saw photos of a Cafe Art exhibition in London which inspired him to do the same in Sydney.

Cafe Art is a cafe chain which has a concept of showcasing visual artworks created by people who were socially endangered or even homeless.  He thought it was a great and interesting way of engaging people in photography. What began as a Kickstarter campaign is now a Cafe with yearly exhibitions which gather more than hundred photos from people with unique, unsettling and meaningful histories.

Inspired by Cafe Art and how it worked out, Michael began developing a new project, a Community Service named Minerva, based on data science. He talks about how data science works and how they are using it with altruistic intentions, in order to solve problems such as domestic violence to a certain extent. He also talks about some useful innovations such as the smart watch which tracks your blood pressure and movements in order to predict when a crime is going to happen. Listen to this episode and you will hear various interesting things about these topics, as well as how to apply to the Cafe Art contest!
