After so many years, I finally got to catch up with one of the people who paved the way for me and many other creatives on our path to photography or the arts. Rosscapili has helped so many of us and we learned more about a different side to this well-known artist during our one-on-one chat on PARC HERE LIVE. Here's just some of what he shared to us about his life.
1. He came from humble beginnings. This gave him the drive to set and, more importantly, achieve goals that would make all of his sacrifices worthwhile. Persistency is in his bones, to the point of stubbornness, and he saw the limitations he faced as challenges to overcome, not barriers. In his struggles, he never let the put-downs or criticisms affect is output.
2. He made helping out other struggling artists an advocacy. As much as possible, Ross doesn't want other artists to go through what he has been through so he gives a lot of creatives the break they need, especially when he sees their potential. He doesn't just look for someone "good." He supports creatives with unique talents.
3. He's not afraid to explore. He believes that creatives aren't supposed to limit themselves as there will always be something to try. He also explained the value of an art and how it can appreciate and could potentially become an expensive collector's item. He talked about why artists and photographers should give value to their work by printing and signing these, and not just keeping it stored in a hard disk because you'll never know!
4. At the core of his focus is his family. He balances everything he has done in the hopes of giving his family the life and comforts they deserve. He's an artist and mentor to others, but he is a husband and father first and foremost.

Joining us on PARC Here Live! for December is none other than the esteemed visual artist, Ross Capili. He was the first person in the arts to give newcomers like me a break. During our time, his OWG Art Gallery in Makati was where we got to showcase our work. I remember he used to host a weekly get-together for photographers there, and that's where we were able to build long-lasting ties.
