I consider Jay Tablante as my contemporary in this business and as our paths have crossed over the years, the Jay who sat down with us for a chat on PARC HERE LIVE last night has definitely evolved in his style and views in life. Commendably, he has become more creative, focused, involved, mature and fun...but here are 6 more things we learned from that chat:
1. His creativity, driven by his desire for perfection and attention to detail, all started with a gift from his dad, his one toy as a kid: a set of LEGO.
2. He will be bold enough to scratch or stop a project if he finds that it doesn't meet his level of expectation. He is his own worst critique.
3. As a self-confessed geek, whose into comics and video games, Jay prefers Marvel over DC because the characters are "already damaged." His favorite is X-Men because it tackled issues like racism before the fight against racism became a "woke" advocacy.
4. July is his sacred period, the only month in the year when he doesn't work. That's when he attends the widely popular Comic-Con event in San Diego to feed his love for all things geeky and bring out the kid in him.
5. He seeks inner peace and mental focus by practicing Jiu-Jitsu. It has done wonders for his physical health and well-being.
6. He is a true storyteller - perceptive and intuitive. He shared a bunch of great quotes and mantra with us, which he applies in his life.

Before photography, Jay Tablante's career goals were focused on IT and I don't believe he'd mind if we describe him as the ultimate geek. It's this side of him that set the path to the kind of work he's most likely known for: no one does Cosplay Photography as good as Jay!
However, he's also exceptionally good in fashion photography -- shooting lingerie models, celebrities and brands. How influential is his geeky side in his output? Does this factor into the level of execution of his work? There are plenty of good photographers in this country but Jay stands out distinctively -- does he have a formula?
