Not that catching a fish isn’t always fun, but one of most anglers favorite ways to fish is using topwater techniques. On today's episode, the Noobs show is happy to welcome Shane Beilue, a fellow angler and writer for Game and Fish to discuss two different topwater techniques, the buzzbait and walking baits!

Shane started fishing early in his life and progressed to tournament fishing through college. Once he started his family, he moved away from the tournament scene but kept up his involvement with the sport by taking up writing about fishing and has also started doing video content as well.

We start off by discussing buzzbaits. With Shanes help, we cover rod, reel, and line choice to help anglers get started throwing buzzbaits. We talk about the difference in buzzbaits you will find, including size, number of blades, and color. We dive into where Shane likes to fish buzzbaits, including conditions, time of year, and the types of cover he prefers to target.

After covering the ins and outs of buzzbaits, we turn to covering walking baits. We start by discussing the different types of walking baits available from the OG walking bait, the Zara Spook and all its variants, to newer baits like the Evergreen Shower Blows. We again cover rod, reel and line choice for walking baits then jump into a quick how-to on how to make your walking bait “walk the dog”, a back and forth retrieve that really draws strikes.
