Nelson Mandela was sentenced to 27 years in prison. He spent 18 years of his sentence at Robben Island, confined in a tiny prison cell with no proper bed and a small blanket. He was brutally mistreated and humiliated, in order to break his spirit. But Nelson Mandela kept strong and held on to his belief and dream to serve South Africa and it's people and liberate them from the oppressors of Apartheid. He lead by example, he was brave, he had integrity, humility, kindness understanding, he was loving and dignified.
