David Young is the Assistant Principal Bassoonist of the NSO. He did his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and then went to the University of Maryland to take part in the Woodwind Quintet Fellowship. He actually left his masters studies early to play with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway for a few months, and then spent four years in the United Stated President’s Own Marine Band. It’s really inspiring to see David’s commitment to never giving up on his dream of playing in a major symphony orchestra. She was awarded a Fulbright grant to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in their Orchestral Artistry program, which was in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra. She then went on to receive her PhD, also from the Guildhall School, researching the impact of education and community work in conservatoire training.
