First, I really wanted to call this episode "Confessions of a Skinny Girl" but I thought that would trigger too many people and not actually capture the depth of this podcast episode.
Second, I had more people reach out to me and share their own perspectives on this topic, ask questions, and want to know more about my story then I ever have. So obviously this is a HOT topic.
Third, it is important to note this is MY story. I am not a weight expert, therapist, or food expert. This is my vulnerable story growing up a skinny, white girl conditioned to stay skinny. From a grandmother who focused more on my weight than on me as a person, to being a soccer player surrounded by athletic girls, to the day to day conditioning a woman receives from magazines, men, friends, and TV.
This is a tricky topic and one that I do not think "skinny" women share very openly or much. I feel there is a misconception out there that because I am thin I must be ok with my body. Yes, in times of my life I have been. And there are times in my life where I definitely have not been. No matter the weight, I think most women struggle because we have been conditioned to look a certain way. Thanks bikini industry complex and the patriarchy (please note the sarcasm), which I dive into here.
This is the story of my conditioning. And my story of healing. Plus a way to start working with it in yourself if looks and conditioning is something you struggle with too.
