In this episode I interview Dr. Valerie Young about her journey through Impostor syndrome and her research. She defines it as Impostor Phenomenon and who is likely to experience it.  She says many have core beliefs that they are fooling people their whole life and they are going to be find out, externalize accomplishments and internalize our failures. Those with it may diminish contributions they have.  She discusses where Impostor syndrome can originate.

She discusses creative fields, STEM and Healthcare fields where its more likely to occur.  Dr. Young shares how people different races or ethnicities, or first in their group in a career may struggle more with it.  She discusses how it has increased greatly with COVID with more people being isolated and not connecting as much with colleagues.

Women are more likely to be held back when they experience Impostor Syndrome.  The more accomplished you are the more likely you are to have Impostor syndrome.  It can show up as never starting or finishing something in your life..  She discusses ways to better manage these feelings.
