The son of a crazed cricket fan, Devdutt Padikkal was pegged to be a cricketer even before he was born. And taking off early, he began by attending a local cricket academy in Hyderabad, but training beside 500 other students Devdutt was not going to get anywhere and so, his parents readjusted their lives to support their son’s cricketing aspirations and relocated to Bangalore. And once there, Devdutt didn’t take too long to shine, amassing runs and raking up records along an illustrious domestic career. Owing to his dominating physicality, Devdutt made short work of deadly pacers and short-pitched bowling attacks and was soon picked up for the IPL by RCB. But that didn’t mean life was set, as he was not even played by the team during his first season. Yet thanks to his hard work and determination, Devdutt carved his own path to getting noticed by selectors and soon became the team’s opener in the subsequent season.
Tune into this Sochcast, written by Tipu Sultan, hosted by #thatcricketguy Jatin Sapru, and experience the explosive performance for the RCB by Devdutt Padikkal, which made him a hot favourite leading to a number of franchises engaging in a bidding war over this raw batting talent at this year’s auction.
