Not content to merely scavenge data on the NET, this young Netrunner has broken one of the most dangerous taboos in the game: he has created his own artificial intelligence. A.I.lyson, an artificial construct in the shape of Fitz's childhood crush, is the only person in the world Fitz can trust, and together they have made a name for themselves in the shadowy realm of cyberspace.

However, the brightest stars burn the fastest, and after years of going up against dangerous Black ICE software, Fitz's prefrontal cortex has taken a beating. The doctors at Biotechnica say the brain cancer is terminal, and they give him maybe three years to live. In the face of oblivion, Fitz must create his legacy. Will he burn out in a blaze of glory, or find salvation in the depths of cyberspace?
