Saul/Paul met the risen Jesus as he approached Damascus. He'd gone there to persecute the Jesus believers and to stop them spreading a message that he personally thought was blasphemous. He soon discovered that Jesus was the Messiah as his life was interrupted by Him. He realized that he was a sinner and needed a Saviour. Jesus was that Saviour.
