The Myanmar Elections Briefing is a three part podcast series on the information you need to know about the Myanmar General Elections 2020.
Our second episode is on peace and reconciliation in Myanmar. We discuss the root cause of ethnic conflict in Myanmar by going through the nation's history. In doing so, we also explain some of the nuances between the terms Burma versus Myanmar. We then have a special guest speaker, Ko Nay Thway who has previously worked with the Myanmar Peace and Reconciliation Centre. Ko Nay Thway takes us through the successes and challenges of the NLD government in the peace and reconciliation process. Lastly, Myat Myat Mon (our Chief Research Correspondent) shares perspectives on the remaining issues that need to be addressed going forward.
The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the speakers. They do not reflect the opinions or views of any organisations that our speakers may be affiliated with.
In the podcast, we discuss the complexities of ethnic identity in Myanmar. To learn more about the complexities, we recommend reading the works and publications of authors such as Min Zaw Oo, Lian H. Sakhong, Ashley South, Martin Smith, Nick Cheesman, Nicolas Salem-Gervais and Rosalie Metro.
