We're back from our month-long break to explore the political philosophy of Machiavellianism. The revolutionary idea that traditional Judeo-Christian ethics are incompatible with politics was first brought up by the Renaissance era diplomat, Niccolo Machiavelli in his most famous work, The Prince. We discuss the content of The Prince, which lays out political ideas that have often been described as useful tips for tyrants throughout the ages. We also question whether Machiavelli himself really believed in the ideas he laid out in his leading work. Even if no nation or constitution has been founded upon the idea of Machiavellianism, it is undeniable that Machiavelli's work will remain to be a large influence in the field of political philosophy for centuries to come. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to listen to the episode, and we'll catch you all in the next one!
