Hello and
welcome to Macabre for Mortals, thank you for joining me for this true crimeepisode. This is another cold case that was lost in mystery for a long timeuntil it suddenly heated up again. There are very few cases that become so coldand then suddenly become solved as quickly as this one. My intrigue into coldcases always fuels my passion, and I wonder if at some point I will be able tohelp a victim and their families.
The case of
Helen Brach, the heiress who mysteriously disappeared in 1977, is still one fothe most surprising cases in the United States legal history. No witnesses, nobody and no leads for the police to follow up on, the case went cold veryquickly after her death, even though clearly someone had been killed for hermoney. Then in a surprise twist, the case warmed up many years later, and theman who was responsible for her death was finally brought to justice. My main reference for this episode is "Criminal Cold Cases - fugitives finally brought to justice" By Charlotte Greig
