Echo chamber #3 by Wassili Widmer artist in residency 2022-2023, released february 2023Meet the residents, co-production Lumpen Station In the third episode of the Echo Chamber project, you can hear a spoken word performance recorded in an echo chamber. The three performers had a simple score that provided them with a framework for their actions. The two main elements were repetition and contradiction. None of the spoken words were written in advance, so everything that was said was expressed intuitively by the performers. As a result, the performance was said to have a quality of "écriture automatique." This reflects the flow of everyday conversations and their momentum. The duration of the spoken word performance is about 47 minutes. It was recorded in one go and without edits.Echo Chamber deals with the theme of echo and its related elements in three chapters. First through a conversation, then through a critical reflection and finally through an artistic performance. Three different perspectives that open up only a fraction of the broad and fascinating subject of echo. Phenomena of sound, sociology and mythology come together in it and allow reflections on an auditory element of a world that is becoming more complex. Be it digital or not. The ancient Greek myth of the echo meets contemporary socio-political, digital phenomena of the echo chamber and is thereby rewritten, respectively reinterpreted. The past offers a way to read the overwhelming present and give it at least a little sense. While this does not lead to solutions, it does offer an understanding of the problems we face and creates an awareness of what we need to work on as a whole society.  That’s it for me and this year then. Thanks a lot for the wonderful opportunity. It was interesting to develop an audio based work over such a long time and I feel like I’ve reached quite a bit of depth in it. Furthermore I learned quite a bit on a technical level, for example how to record and edit voice. Obviously I still got a lot to learn and would probably need to buy a bit more expensive equipment to reach a new level of recording. Anyway, happy to hear some feedback from your side too on the whole thing and if the methodology made sense to you and what you think of the execution.
