Nocturnal Episodes by Diane BarbéLumpen connexions, release in november 2022Nocturnal Episodes is a continuous exploration through several dreams that occurred to me in the summer 2022. As the western world picked up again on a post-Covid productivist frenzy, the need for slowness and respite arose through the restlessness. I wondered what dreams and what ideals we pursue as a society; what futures do we want to build together? what connexions do we attempt to weave with the sacred and with the horrible? how can musical practices, in playing and listening, help us find a way to focus on the crucial needs for healing, resilience, fairness? Weaving together spoken word, flute, field recordings and substractive synthesis, this piece explores the wide spectrum of imaginaries to create a type of cinema-with-no-images. Nocturnal Episodes was created by Diane Barbé, sound artist, curator and researcher currently based in Berlin.
