They don’t have good stories, they all launched with a lot of bugs, they have very myopic gameplay systems, and yet, they’re bizarrely memorable. To put it simply, they offer a grand escape into a realm of escapist entertainment; we take control of Rico Rodriguez, a rough and tumble mercenary military specialist who can rock bell bottoms as well as he can steal a commercial airliner from a major airport without anyone noticing. I’d call them junk food games: there’s no substance here, just fluff. And, just like cotton candy, it’s still enjoyable to consume even though there’s nothing really here.
