It's only when understanding the bad news first, that the good news takes on a whole new meaning.  Preparing the soil is a much more important act than the actual planting of the seed...and takes more time, effort and care.  In the same way, the gospel (planting the seed) is simple, but preparing the heart (the soil) to receive it should take great care and attention.
