Episode 224: Identity, Sexuality and Anxiety
Overwhelming and growing concerns around anxiety, identity, sexuality, and gender confusion are a few of the topics that we are venturing down today. Join us in this honest, real and thoughtful conversation as we seek to understand the current state of the Church (capital C) and the cultural needs of our times. Aaron has been the Worship Arts Pastor at Rolling Hills Community Church in outside Portland, OR since 2003 where he leads worship and shares teaching responsibilities. Before pastoring at Rolling Hills, Aaron spent several years in Nashville, TN working as an accountant for RCA/Sony/Arista Records, as well as performing on stage and in the studio. He’s been writing and leading music for the greater Church for over 25 years, exploring the unique role that music plays in our understanding of God and our connection to Him. In 2016, he released an album called ‘HYMNS’ that revisits many of the songs that were formative in his own faith journey and are now part of his family’s life. He’s finishing up his Master’s in Applied Biblical Leadership program at Western Seminary and is married to his beautiful bride, Christina and raising three teen daughters where he tries to assail them with his quality Dad Jokes.Aaron DoerrInstagram: @doerrjamswebsite: doerrjams.comLink to his Hymns album Life together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer I am not my ownI am not my own lyricsStory behind the songWe LOVE that you’ve decided to join us this week for the Living Wholehearted Podcast. Episode 223: Parenting - Shaping Good Theology with our Kids and Women in Ministry
"Developing good theology with our chidlren can be a difficult responsibility. It's hard to answer their questions about ""where is God"" and ""why do bad things happen?"" Where do we go, as parents, to find resources to help guide us along the way? Today, this conversation will be a gift - whether you are a parent trying to raise your children in a faith they won't be wounded by - or someone who is trying to heal from church wounds yourself. We also dive into the topic of women in ministy, as our guests are ordained ministers in the heart of Texas. Whether we are talking about God’s presence in good times and hard times and the unique lens women bring to the pulpit, this conversation is for you. At Living Wholehearted, we serve leaders in all kinds of organizations, including the church. As mothers and pastors Victoria Robb Powers and Cameron Mason Vickrey created Reverend Mamas, an online community that highlights inclusive, faith-based resources for parents and children. What started as a joke that they should write the book they wanted to recommend to other parents, their vision turned into a reality and the pair are releasing their own children’s book, My Love, God Is Everywhere."And, if you’re a girl mom, check out mycourageousgirls.com. ======================= We LOVE that you’ve decided to join us this week for the Living Wholehearted Podcast. Episode 220: Leadership, Gen Z, and the Mental Health Crisis
Today we are talking about the mental health crisis, GEN Z and leadership tips for our own mental health. We discuss the power of rest and four key aspects of healthy leaders. Dr. Van Der Kolk, one of the leading researchers on trauma, says that we are seeing unresolved trauma as the leading health crisis of our times.Mental health counselors have become the new “priest” or “pastor” to many, helping people find a healthy way toward God and others. Not saying this is right, but it is true.So to talk about the current mental health crisis, and how we as mental health providers can be a part of the solution and not add to the pain, we have a newer friend of ours, Zach Clinton, with us today.Zach Clinton currently serves as the Vice President of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He is the host of the renowned ‘Built Different Podcast’ and is President & Host of Ignite Men’s Impact Weekend that gathers nearly 10,000 men each year. A Licensed Resident Counselor in Virginia, he is completing his doctoral program in Counselor Education & Supervision at Liberty University. He is a former Division 1 college baseball player and is recognized as a growing authority and voice on performance, motivational psychology, and mental health for today’s generations.
