Neurological researchers have found that listening to music triggers the release of several neurochemicals that play a role in brain function and the mental health including increased levels of dopamine, a chemical associated with pleasure and reward centers, oxytocin, a chemical that fosters the ability to connect with others, and serotonin, a mood stabilizer. Music also reduces the chemical cortisol, which is the chemical released when we are stressed.
