MAIN: Animal Proteins: Nutrition & Environment. Replacement of red meat with nuts, legumes, and whole grains, is associated with a reduction in total mortality. Also, producing a unit of animal food protein results in greater environmental impacts than producing an equivalent unit of plant food protein.
