It is estimated that 90,000 to 100,000 Americans are currently living with Sickle Cell Disease. This disease primarily affects people of African descent, people from Saudi Arabia and countries surrounding the Mediterranean, like Greece and Italy to name a few. In the U.S., Sickle Cell Disease occurs in about 1 out of every 500 Black births compared to 1 out of every 36,000 Hispanic births. In this episode, the Ladies of Let’s Talk about It are using our voices to raise awareness to this awful disease.
