Welcome to Lessons Learned Soul Tribe. Today, we're going to talk about people pleasing. I don't know about you but I grew up in a time where you were expected to pretty much do what you were told and that really laid a solid foundation of people pleasing. I didn't know how to say, “No.” So as I began this journey and I started to really look out why I was doing things, I started discovering that I'm not really doing things because I wanted to but I'm doing them because I feel like that's what I need to do to keep everybody else happy. In all reality, making myself overwhelmed and overburdened and I had to put an end to that. So I had to really start taking a look at what was my motivation for doing things. Why was I feeling the need to please everybody? It really came down to I needed validation from others to feel worthy. It goes back to some of the things that I've said in the other sessions about you know really becoming aware and drilling down being the detective in your own life to discover and get to the root of things so that you can address them. I started saying, “ No,” because I had learned that people pleasing really wasn't getting what I desired. The genuineness that I sought from others wasn't coming from the right place, it was coming from I want you to feel beholden or you owe me something and that's not who I am or why I want to do things. So now I've begun to stand strong and say no if it's not what I want to do then I don’t. So Just planting a seed for you to think about the people pleasing you do and why. I hope this encourages on your journey to learn that you can say No and that there is nothing wrong with that. In fact it’s becoming stronger and taking care of you and meeting your own needs. Remember, before you can meet anyone else’s needs you have to meet your own or you are going to be too overwhelmed and burnt out to help anyone.
