My father has always held "hard labor" jobs. He works in the fire sprinkler industry which means he spends 8-10 hours per day lifting  heavy sprinkler pipes and installing them in commercial buildings. From the time I was 10-12 years old to the time I was 22 years old he would come home from work every day and sit down at the dinner table. He would take this old plastic blue lunch box and set it in front of me every day. He then would tell me "If you go to school you will get a job where you use your head and not your hands." My father was trying to motivate me to go to college, get a good job and find a career that allowed me to use my "head" instead of my hands. He said if I didn't go to school and get a job that utilized my head that I would always be working with my hands and carrying a lunchbox like he was. It was a powerful metaphor to say the least.
