In the past 5 plus years, the Lawrence community and City Commission have been discussing and debating whether LFK ought to be a sanctuary city. Through the work of Sanctuary Alliance, Lawrence is getting closer and closer to being one of the few sanctuary cities in the midwest. On this episode of Lawrence Talks, I am joined by Sanctuary Alliance organizer Mariel Ferreiro. We discuss her experience of growing up in a migrant family in the midwest, how those experiences shaped her activism, and the work of Sanctuary Alliance.
