We've all been insulted or treated unfairly--in our personal and professional lives. It's human nature to feel deeply offended (and even hurt) by these sorts of slights. But Aurelius advises us that we need to "recognize that others can hurt [us] only if [we] let them." According to Aurelius, the truth is that WE ultimately decide to allow others to hurts us--whereas we could have instead chose to pity the offender for being so ignorant or rude. Ultimately, Aurelius explains, The only actions that should truly hurt us are things WE DO that are shameful, since we are in control of our own self-worth and values. In this deeply personal episode, Coach Blake gets vulnerable, and admits that he suffered for much of his life when it came to allowing the comments and opinions of others to too much control his own sense of self-worth and value. Listen in as Coach Blake explains how critical itself to remember that we are the masters of our own minds, and the words and opinions of others can--at least generally--only REALLY hurt us if we allow them to. A crucial lesson for being a better lab professional, spouse, parents, and person. Enjoy!
