In a campaign rally Monday in Nebraska, President Donald Trump remarked that Iran can "take out" San Diego and Los Angeles — a suggestion that elected officials and political experts across California have since denounced.
"It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe," Trump said at the rally. "They can take out a city, let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."
Tuesday on Midday Edition, we hear from Rep. Scott Peters and political science professor Thad Kousser about their reactions to the president's comments and the broader implications, amid the ongoing Iran war.
Guests:
- Representative Scott Peters, congressmember, California's 50th congressional district
- Thad Kousser, political science professor, UC San Diego
