On Tuesday, the San Diego City Council adopted a new working definition of Islamophobia in an effort to further combat anti-Muslim hate and bias.
The city action comes four months after two gunmen attacked the Islamic Center of San Diego, killing three people.
It is believed to be the first resolution of its kind in California and the third nationally, according to the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
We break down the new definition, what it means for a city government to adopt it and how community leaders, elected officials and other organizations are working to combat anti-Muslim hate.
