Here in California, the San Andreas Fault is a constant presence in our daily lives whether we think about it or not.


But this century has been a relatively quiet one for the 800-mile fault line.


New research from the University of Hawai'i suggests that the San Andreas fault has reached its highest stress level in 1,000 years.
