Before doing a 24-hour urine collection for kidney stone prevention, there are three important things to know. First, you should eat like you did when you were forming kidney stones to see how those foods affected your urine chemistry. Second, stop taking vitamins that have not been prescribed by a doctor three to five days before the collection, as some vitamins can interfere with the test. Third, make sure to follow the instructions for the urine collection and submit it on time. It is also important to do follow-up tests and address any high urine calcium levels to prevent osteoporosis.TakeawaysEat like you did when you were forming kidney stones to see how those foods affected your urine chemistry.Stop taking vitamins that have not been prescribed by a doctor three to five days before the urine collection.Follow the instructions for the urine collection and submit it on time.Do follow-up tests and address any high urine calcium levels to prevent osteoporosis.Sound Bites"You know you need a 24 hour urine collection, but these are three things you need to know before doing the 24 hour urine collection.""The first thing you should be aware of before you do a 24 hour urine collection is you're supposed to eat like you did when you were forming kidney stones.""Stop taking vitamins that have not been prescribed by a doctor three to five days before you do a urine collection."Chapters00:00 Introduction to 24-hour Urine Collection01:13 Eating Habits and Urine Chemistry07:19 Following Instructions and Timely Submission11:06 Addressing High Urine Calcium Levels——HAVE A QUESTION? _Leave us a voicemail at (773) 789-8763.KIDNEY STONE DIET® APPROVED PRODUCTSProtein Powders, Snacks, and moreWORK WITH JILL _Kidney Stone Diet®Kidney Stone Prevention CourseKidney Stone Diet® Meal PlansSUPPORT THE SHOW _Join the PatreonRate Kidney Stone Diet on Apple Podcasts or Spotify——WHO IS JILL HARRIS? _For over 25 years, Jill Harris has been a kidney stone prevention nurse helping patients reduce their kidney stone risk.
