Ian Dinwiddy is the founder of Inspiring Dads, a coaching and mentoring business, specialising in working with men who want to be great dads and have great careers. Ian believes strongly that supporting Dads with their work and life balance, normalising flexible working and parental leave has powerful benefits for improving well-being and retention, building diverse and inclusive workplaces and closing the gender pay gap. Talking to Ian was like having a conversation with a kindred spirit. We covered a lot of topics from why he started his organization, that dads can do any type of caring except breastfeeding to why a time of solo parenting is important for dads. Ian also spoke about the identity of being a full time carer dad and how male role models are important for other dads – using Bill Gates’ as an awesome example. Ian explained how he educates people about being a dad carer one person at a time, the importance of flexible work and his talk at Flexpo on September 16th. Last but certainly not least he gave examples of soft skills he has learned as a carer and talked about the importance of shared family goals.
