Disney's Pinocchio is an allegorical tale of alchemical proportions.
Detailing the harshities a young man must face entering the world, naive Pinocchio, a wooden puppet, falls victim to malevolent tricksters and sinister characters and as he fails to listen to his conscious he gets trafficked to a far away land called Pleasure Island where sin and iniquity is in abundance.
It is here, at the last second, that he realises the error of his ways and vows to listen to his conscious which sets him on the path to become reunited with his estranged father.
Don’t let its age deter you, Pinocchio is as jarringly relevant and realistic thematically as it was when it was released back in 1940 and should be considered mandatory viewing by any self called cinephile.
