For the better part of two years, artificial intelligence has become the market's favorite child. Every earnings report, every conference call, every CEO seems obligated to say "AI" enough times to satisfy Wall Street. Investors have convinced themselves that AI is either going to save the economy or destroy it.

I don't buy it.

AI isn't the canary in the coal mine. It's the miner holding the flashlight.
