This episode was our first ever episode with two guests and better yet, a father son combo!
The McCullochs dove deep into the transition from active duty service member to veteran employee and how the skill that differentiates you and sets you up for the most success is leadership.
We covered the transitions into continued service to this country through non profit leadership and then into Government service with LTC (R) Oakland McCulloch. Simultaneously we talked diving into the construction industry with Oakland McCulloch and how company leadership and their desire to hire leaders won him over.
We have said it before, services members super powers are leadership, lean on that and search for companies that want that.
Other key points covered in this episode:
The transition into civilian life is evergreen, more than likely your first job isn't going to give you immediate purpose. It takes time to find that meaning in the company you work for. Remember it took you a couple of years to get on board with the military's mission.
Don't jump into the first offer, ask the hard questions, look at the leadership and remember they are trying out for you as much as you are trying out for them. A good management team is worth more than double the pay somewhere else with questionable leadership.
The 75% rule, be in the top 15% of your peers as a minimum always, if you strive for this, success will find you not the other way around.
We are the leaders the corporate world needs right now. Don't forget that. You don't need to be in a "leadership position" to lead. Lead by example every day, make peers asks questions about why you do the things you do, you will make a difference sooner than you know.
Tune in and listen to this episode it had so many great nuggets!
