Normand Schafer speaks with Grant Syhower, Director of Sales and Marketing at Royal Davui Island Resort, about what makes the property feel so special from the moment you arrive. Grant explains that Royal Davui was designed with romance in mind, and that privacy and seclusion are central to how the resort is built. He describes how guests often don’t even realize they have neighbors from one villa to the next, and he emphasizes that Royal Davui is the only resort on the island—creating a true private island experience. Grant shares that the island is about 10 acres and can be walked around in roughly 30 minutes, and that there are only 16 villas total with a maximum of 32 guests at any time. Each villa has its own plunge pool, offering a personal space to relax in fresh water, while the ocean offers “Mother Nature” and incredible snorkeling right off the jetty. Normand asks how the resort encourages relaxation and intimacy, and Grant explains that guests can be as adventurous or as lazy as they want. He lists a range of activities available through the resort—Hobie Cat sailing, kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, resort fishing, diving, and more—balanced by the simple luxury of lounging by the pool with a glass of rosé and enjoying authentic Fijian hospitality. One of the episode’s highlight moments is the resort’s signature sand cay beach picnic. Grant explains that Royal Davui takes one couple at a time and drops them on a pristine sand cay that appears only at low tide, setting them up with bean bags, umbrellas, and a picnic lunch and leaving them there for about three hours. He emphasizes the feeling of complete privacy, noting there are no cruise ships coming through and no day visitors—just you and your spouse on a secluded stretch of sand. Grant also shares a personal touch: he lives on the island and meets guests on arrival, adding to the intimate, hosted feel of the experience. Beyond the romance, Normand asks about traditions and unique features guests love, and Grant highlights cultural connections such as visiting a neighboring village on Beqa Island. He describes opportunities to see the school, meet local families, and attend a church service to hear the beautiful Fijian singing—an authentic cultural experience many couples find deeply moving. Seasonality comes up as well. Grant notes that May through September tends to be busier and aligns with honeymoon and anniversary travel patterns, but he emphasizes there is “no bad time” to visit Fiji and describes it as a year-round destination with beautiful weather and water temperatures, even when rain passes through. Finally, Normand asks what guests commonly say after returning home, and Grant shares a recurring theme: “recharging the soul,” including a story of a guest who visibly transformed over a seven-night stay. If you want a Fiji couples escape that feels private, intentional, and truly restorative, this episode will help you understand why Royal Davui is so memorable—and Far and Away Adventures can help you build the perfect honeymoon or anniversary itinerary around it.
