Life in Heartland partner, NRCAER, turns 35 in 2026. Brenda Gheran, Executive Director of NRCAER, along with Cory Wald, Environment Health Safety & Security Manager for Nutrien, Fort Saskatchewan, and Chad Moore, Manager of Protective Services and Fire Chief for Sturgeon County, will discuss how industrial and municipal response partners plan, prepare, and practise for emergencies. Our guests will share how mutual aid benefits municipalities, industry and the entire Heartland community. They’ll highlight examples of NRCAER successes over the past 35 years, including a recent example of successful mutual aid efforts in the Sturgeon fire.

Life in the Heartland works to increase resident awareness of operations within Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. We communicate with the community on key areas related to industry projects and development in the region. Alberta’s Industrial Heartland is designated industrial zoned land covering 582 square kilometers northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. It’s home to over 40 companies producing and processing oil, gas, petrochemicals, and advanced manufacturing. Tune in to In the Zone to learn more about industry and innovation happening in the Heartland as we discuss topics directly with the experts themselves.
