In late May 2025, claims emerged regarding a #GOP budget bill that purportedly lowers the definition of dependents from 18 to 7 years, specifically affecting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Democratic Congresswoman #ShontelBrown criticized the proposal, highlighting its potential cruelty toward families, particularly those with children aged 8 to 10 who would lose vital food assistance.

The change only impacts #SNAP's work requirements, shifting exemptions for #parents from #children under 6 to those under 7, which could result in around 1.2 million families losing benefits. Compliance may become challenging for many working families, and there are concerns about increased state administrative costs. The bill has yet to be voted on in the Senate amid ongoing debates regarding its effects on vulnerable households.
