Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib, a Palestinian American and senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, discusses his childhood in Gaza, surviving an Israeli airstrike at age 11, and losing 31 family members since the conflict unleashed after October 7th. He argues that Hamas has devastated Palestinian prospects using armed resistance. He advocates instead for "radical pragmatism"—accepting Israel is here to stay, abandoning right of return, and pursuing nation-building over violence. Alkhatib also calls out Israeli policies and Netanyahu’s leadership, describing their major missteps during the war, that has come at the cost of thousands of civilians.
