The Basic Fear for the enneagram personality style 7 is to be restricted by boredom and the mundaneness of life, or feel trapped in negative emotional states with no options to move. Believe it or not this impingement of their freedom causes something like terror at deep levels in a type 7 personality, and when not aware at a conscious level they will do or try almost anything to remain up, moving and happy, in order to avoid that emotional state. When that dynamic is allowed to play out long enough the 7’s natural attraction to ‘more’ of anything can lead to deep addiction - whether to substances, behaviors or both.
That story actually played out in the life of David Ridley, former jet-set fashion model, Bass Pro fisherman, subject of one of the most popular episodes of the HGTV/Magnolia mega-hit, Fixer-Upper, and enneagram-type 7. Join us on today’s episode as David candidly shares his story of how the unconscious search for more-and-more happiness - played out in the over-the-top world of international fashion modeling - resulted in increasing levels of alcohol and other substance consumption, inappropriate relationships, and a spiral downward to the brink of suicide. Be sure to hang in for the rest of the story (so far!) and the spiritual intervention that changed David’s life forever.
