Enjoyable Ramblings
Really like listening to these guys (Edward & Martin) talk about games. It’s an easy on the ears listen and they are both very thought out and opinionated. Hope they can continue to be consistent with podcast releases going forward, really look forward to them.

Great quality and content, keep it up. I’m starting on the first episode available and working my way up.
Any reason the first episodes are missing? I want all the content I can get!
You tube channel is fun too. Wish I lived in Denver so I could participate.

Loving the cast. Just started getting into heavier games and found Edwards show. Can’t get enough. If you enjoy board games give this pod a try.

Great show
I really enjoy this podcast along with the YouTube channel. I do not have a heavier game group, although I am starting to enjoy them. This really gives me ideas for games that I can get for the few times I can get a heavy one to the table.

Really wanted to like it...
I really wanted to like this podcast. Tried two episodes. One involved an 11 minute monologue about ankles, food and poker, then a few more minutes about gaming at a developers house. The other episode took waaaayyy too long to get to any crunch as well, including even more poker talk about how the host played for money and when. Funny enough it was a heavy board game podcast without crunch and with too much filler. This show could be trimmed to an hour if the fluff was pulled out and it would be greatly improved. It stinks though, I really really wanted to like it!

Passion and Analysis
There are many podcasts that talk about board games, and they provide quick reviews so that consumers have an idea of what is good or not. However, few give such a good look at a single game in such an organized manner as Heavy Cardboard. Apart from the many times poker is mentioned there is so much to enjoy, learn about, and discover when listening to this podcast.

Update: The might have fallen....
Update. Sadly, the quality has falled in the last year and a half. The podcst is infrequent, and often isn't on the niche that made it "famous." Focus on the YouTube channel has put the podcast clearly on the backburner making it hardly worth the time.
A nice, fresh take on the boardgame podcast. It is nice to see a focused podcast on a single game/game type, instead of the massive overview podcasts we have a current glut of. The only thing that could make this better (and along with others), is to remember the past boardgame instead of focusing currently on the cult of the new.

I love this podcast and the YouTube channel. Edward covers a variety of games, but focuses on the heavier games I enjoy. Our tastes in games are similar, so I find he’s a great source for finding hidden gems I’ve missed.
Additionally, his instructional videos and play throughs are immensely helpful when you’re the one who teaches most new games for your gaming group. They’re a great supplement to the rulebook, which are not always well written. I highly recommend HC if you’re into heavy games.

Excellent Board Game Podcast
Edward puts on an excellent podcast dedicated to heavier weight board games. He usually has a feature game and goes pretty in depth using his own knowledge and experience and/or supplements with a guest who has even more experience with that particular game. I view this podcast as a great stand alone experience but it’s even better when paired with his YouTube channel and play through videos. You can tell Edward puts lots of time and attention into his work. I can not recommend this podcast highly enough. Check it out!

Great and much appreciated niche
I love that these guys cover so many "heavier" titles in an in-depth fashion, and will give a listen any time I can. The in-depth coverage of heavier games by people with guests who are excited about them is a delightful and much appreciated niche. My main issue is the format is long and not particularly engaging if I don't know or care about the game. There is often a lot of unrelated banter, and sometimes the piecemeal feeling of the main game coverage drives me nuts.

Used to be great
When I first found this podcast it was awesome. I couldn’t get enough of their in depth reviews and discussions. Somewhere along the way they veered off the road and the podcast became more about their personal lives, name dropping, talking more about what content was coming to YouTube rather than actually producing content for the podcast and my least favorite topic: their Patreon. I unsubscribed over a year ago and didn’t miss it one bit. Out of curiosity I downloaded a couple new episodes (it’s Jan 2019) and I see not much has changed. A lot of personal talk and live stream references. Not interesting at all. I will say the very latest episode on Trickerion seemed like a big step in the right direction with a lot of nuanced game discussion. I hope Edward gets back to that but can’t say I’ll be around even if he does.

The Gold Standard
My absolute favorite podcast! When it comes to heavy strategy boardgames, Heavy Cardboard is the gold standard.

Excellent board game podcast
As the title says, this is an excellent board game podcast. The reviews are the most thorough I've heard and more importantly their reasoning for the reviews really sets them apart. I also highly recommend their YouTube channel for great video content.

Fantastic and fun board gaming content!
Heavy Cardboard has become one of my most-anticipated things to listen to each week. They do an excellent job covering the deeper end of the board gaming hobby without alienating those still getting their feet wet, so to speak, and truly care about wanting to share their experience and insights with the community.

Best Podcast for Heavy Gamers
Heavy Cardboard is the go to podcast for the heavier side of board games. It has introduced me to a whole new world of games I did not know existed. It is informative, in depth, and makes these often intimidating games approachable and entertaining. Highly recommend.

Love this podcast and the reviews of heavy and sometimes not-so-Heavy board games. Hoping for many more years of podcasts!

Great content
This team ticks a lot of boxes for me. They give good representation of live events with diaries and such. They make me ignore my reclusive nature to actually go try newer larger cons. Their tastes in games mirrors my own eerily close, so I can rely on HC to point me in the right direction when I don’t have the time to research myself. Always happy to share in the adventures of the HC crew and I am quite happy to see the success on patreon .

The definitive "heavy" board game podcast
While there are other podcasts and/or youtube channels that occasional touch on heavier games, few represent the perspective of people who primarily play those games. Heavy Cardboard does a great job of providing that viewpoint as well as bringing many overlooked games to light. Amanda and Edward are fun and engaging on a topic that some might find less approachable. Absolutely five star quality.

The best
... for board game reviews. What else do you need? They talk about anticipation games, things they’ve played enough to ‘get’, and their current views of the old faithfuls. Need to learn a game? Their teach-videos fit the title also - The Best.

The Best Boardgaming Podcast Out There!
This podcast is a must listen for boardgamers. Very professional and high-quality production. Edward and Amanda prepare extensively for each podcast by playing a game numerous times before giving a review which means that they are able to talk about many aspects of the games that other's miss.

Ambassadors of the Heavy
Edward and Amanda are fantastic ambassadors for the heavy side of the board gaming hobby. If you know or even think you might enjoy this side of the hobby, this podcast is definitely worth your time. They break down games in a manner that is clean and understandable, and present it in a way that is engaging. Far too often I've picked up a new game as a result of their podcast reviews and/or their YouTube playthroughs. Each time, I've been a satisfied customer, being armed with an understanding of exactly how the game worked and why two like-minded gamers felt it was worth my time. Give it a go.

Great Board Game podcast
If you like board games, and especially if you like “heavier” board games, then this is the podcast for you. Edward and Amanda do a great job of talking about the games that they love. The live plays on YouTube are even better.

Edward and Amanda are a delight to listen to. They are casual and fun while maintaining high production standards. One of my favorite podcasts.

Quality reviews of an underrepresented genre
Reviews are in-depth and well thought out - something that is lacking in many podcasts. The attention to lesser known, heavier games fills an underrepresented niche in the hobby. More recently, they have had interviews with game designers and artists, offering interesting insight into the production side of the hobby. Really great content overall.

Great -- but Edward's presentation is driving me away...
This is a great podcast for all the reasons the other reviewers have mentioned. But I'm having more and more trouble actually listening to Edward talk. He's a nice, smart guy, obviously; but he has the habit of speaking as though the words coming out of his mouth are of such intense and profound wisdom that each syllable must be uttered with extreme deliberation and gravity. He really seems to think that every observation he makes about a game is intensely profound, or even unprecedented. He'll often precede an observation with, "Now. Let me be perfectly, absolutely clear." -- as if he's addressing the UN at some moment of serious crisis. That, in combination with the continual humblebragging about the recognition his podcast gets, and about the amazing designers he's now friends with -- it just drives me batty. I'm not complaining about celebrating success -- that's fine, if it doesn't go on too long -- it's just the false humility that's annoying. If I hear one more time about how "humbled" he is about this or that amazing recognition, I'm going to have to unsubscribe. It seems to me that humility generally means *not* calling attention to certain things.
But the podcast really is excellent and focuses on some great overlooked games. The only suggestion I have about other aspects of the presentation is to get rid of the rigid structure of the reviews, which require you to go step by step through a tedious series of headings instead of just having a natural conversation that will hit upon everything that's important to say anyway.
And please count me among your loyal listeners who are not really interested in the "preview" podblasts, nor anything that gets into "lifestyle." What I'm really interested in are your experiences with and opinions on games, which are incredibly insightful.
I hope my criticism here, while needing to be said, doesn't eclipse the fact that what is brilliant and informative about this podcast is so much brighter than its relatively minor problems, and I'm very grateful Edward and Amanda put such effort into it.

Very informative and entertaining!
I have only been in the cardboard hobby for less than 2 years and don't really have the opportunity play heavy games, but still love listening to the Heavy Cardboard cast share their stories, thoughts, and general knowledge of the heavier side of the hobby. I actually posted on the board games subreddit about a year ago asking for suggestions for podcasts to listen to while I walk my dog in the morning. Edward actually responded with some suggestions and then mentioned his podcast, Heavy Cardboard, if I was into heavier games. "That would be way too far over my head", is what I thought, but fast forward a year and I can't wait for the new Heavy Cardboard episodes to drop and instantly bump them up to "play next" when I get them. Just with the current nature of my game group I don't get to play heavy games, but the cast of Heavy Cardboard has supplied me with plenty of information about that side of the hobby and definitely has my interest peaked and the desire to play heavier games is through the roof. So don't be scared off by the "heavy", this podcast is great and welcoming to teach and inform everyone of the heavy side of the industry! Plus the music that they use is awesome and uplifting!
Thanks Heavy Cardboard!

The One Stop Shop for Heavy Game Insights
I got clued into what Amanda and Edward were doing in early 2017 when Roxley launched their Brass kickstarter. HC was the only place to get tangible info on that game before the KS expired. When I watched their playthrough, I was pretty amazed at the quality of the presentation. The multiple camera angles and the seamless transitions (as well as the excellent teaching and continual strategy insights) impressed me and drew me into the podcast, which is equally excellent. While many of the games HC talks about do not interest me in the slightest (but that is typical of any podcast, really), I appreciate the detail they go into about every aspect of the game. Their reviews are lengthy, but not bloated and they touch on things that matter to me, but other podcasts gloss over, like price, availability and component quality. I soon became a Patreon supporter. This podcast is well worth your time if you enjoy heavy strategy and 18XX games.

Best Podcast for Games That Are Actually Good.
This should be the standard for any podcast purporting to provide review and commentary on boardgames of any genre. Too many shows are so eager to pop off about a game that they review it after only one or two plays and end up just parroting what everyone already knows about it.
These guys are different. They have a structure to their review, which ensures they don't skip over the warts on a game. I also always feel like their critisims are fair, honest, and thoughtful. They also approach reviews from their own personal perspective, as well as from the perpspective of their audience ("If you like tight economic games, then you will like this mechanic," etc.) The review is an analysis, not just a review of the rules. I also really appreciate the fact that they don't review a game until they've played it numerous times at various player counts. Best of all, when they say a game is a "6", I know it's something worth buying.
I used to listen to a bunch of podcasts trying to find the content I like. Every since Heavy Cardboard came around, I've been gradually deleting other podcasts that just can't offer the same amount of meat.

The show that keeps bringing me back
If you take some time to read the other reviews, there's no doubt that Heavy Cardboard is a tterrific podcast (and YouTube channel) with in depth coverage of deep and heavy strategy games. They've helped expose me and my friends to new hobbies, which I'm very grateful for. However, Edward and Amanda (as well as other occasional hosts) are hands down the most down-to-earth people to listen to speak. From their Podblasts, to "Ask the Elephant" Live Q&A's, I feel like I've gotten to know so much of Edward and Amanda. It would be a real pleasure getting to meet them in person some day. As the title states, a lot of podcasts have come and gone on my docket, but this is absolutely the one that continually draws me back. Edward and Amanda are the two best friends you didn't know you needed.

Best reviews out there
The amount of time, effort and thought that these folks put into their reviews is unmatched. You might not agree with their conclusions but you're sure to know how and why they reached them. Also, Edward and Amanda are just fun to listen to.

Amazing Show
Heavy Cardboard has always been excellent. They talk about heavier (and often dryer) games that don't always get the attention they deserve. Their new microphone sounds terrific, and their new video playthroughs really complement the audio podcast. Listen to this show!

Great
Former army guy Edward and Amanda have great chemistry together. I really like how they go in depth on a game which a lot of podcasts lack. This is now one of my go to podcasts now. I also recently discovered their teaching series on YouTube which is top notch.

A Welcome Voice for Under-represented Games
This is such a well done show. Words cannot adequately describe the care and preparation taken by the hosts to discuss the games that scare most gamers away. I admit, most of these games are above my weight class, but the discussion is so engaging that I can't help but come back for more. Keep up the great work!

As good as it gets.
The amount of passion for the hobby really comes through from Edward and Amanda. The coverage of more obscure games is really appreciated. Truly one of the best podcasts around.

A higher level of board game review
I recently found Heavy Cardboard and quickly became hooked. Heavier games used to scare me away, but I've recently found myself wading into these waters. Heavy Cardboard makes these games more approachable while also providing an incredibly in depth review that really dives deep into the game. These two and their support team are putting major effort into their productions and it shows.

Quality and Depth
Just like the hobby they cover, Heavy Cardboard's podcast is a project of both quality in content and depth of knowledge. This was the first cast that actually got me to subscribe and listen on a regular basis. I highly encourage anyone interested in board gaming to give it a try. Covering all sides, pro and con, of the games they review, there are no love-fests on this channel. You'll hear the good and the bad of everything, encouraging listeners to make their own decisons, never pretending to be gaming demagogues. Always a great listen. Always educational. Highest reccomendations.

Enjoy the show
I enjoy the netcast though I play mostly historical simulation games finding that most of the Euro and Amer games are multi-player soliter games. I am looking forward when they do review some historical simulations (war games) which they say are coming.
The interviews are very good and I hope in the future they will interview people from GMT and MMP.

My go-to podcast for boardgames
Heavy Cardboard is now my go-to -- and my only, podcast for board games.
I've been into boardgaming for a long time, and have read/watched/listened to many of the big reviewers out there. All I can say is that I wish Heavy Cardboard was around 10 years ago, to save me all the time spent looking for them.
This podcast is one of the few where you get real opinions about the games being reviewed; real editorial on what you might be buying, and a real sense of the people themselves. After listening to a few episodes, you'll feel like you know them like friends!

One of the few Podcasts I consistently find time for.
Amanda and Edward do an excellent job with their coverage of the boardgame hobby. I value and respect the opinions and insight they provide in their reviews. What separates them from most boardgame podcasts is their comprehensive coverage of heavier gameplay offerings. I have been fortunate to have met them both in person and they are two of the nicest people in the hobby.

The Heavier Side of the Moby
This is a great show about the heavier side of the board game hobby. The banter is pleasant, the news is timely, and the opinions are well thought out and expressed. I appreciate all of the reasoning that goes into the game discussions and how it is delivered. I am often frustrated by how reviewers like or do not like a game but have a very difficult time telling you why without resorting to cliches and generalized feelings. The game discussions here are very pointed and descriptive, effectively giving the listener a good feeling of what the game is like to play and puzzle out. And all while having engaging personality and being entertaining.

Great reviews with depth!
I really appreciate the time these folks put into reviewing a game. No, they don't cover every game known to man. But what they do cover they do so with depth. Also love the fact that they will not review a game just after one play, they take the time to learn and make sure they give it due diligence. Keep it up guys!

The more I grow in to this hobby the more I truly have a tastes for heavier games. This podcast gives the good and not so good in honest reviews that genuinely don't feel bias. Its great to have a source to go to for reviews that can actually inform you on things you may like in a game while also not shying away from the downsides. Thanks Edward and Amanda! Keep on givings great reviews and insight to upcoming games!
