The Amateur Radio community is mourning the loss of Brent Taylor, VY2HF, Vice-President of Radio Amateurs of Canada, who became a Silent Key on May 21, 2026, at the age of 66.Brent's sudden passing has deeply impacted Amateur Radio operators across Canada and around the world. First licensed in 1984, Brent dedicated more than four decades to advancing the Amateur Radio Service through leadership, education, mentorship, and public service.Throughout his career, Brent served in numerous leadership roles including President of the Fredericton Amateur Radio Club, President of the New Brunswick Amateur Radio Association, Trustee of the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame, and most recently Vice-President of Radio Amateurs of Canada.Beyond Amateur Radio, Brent served as an educator, broadcaster, newspaper columnist, member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, and held leadership positions within Veterans Affairs Canada.In this video, we reflect on Brent's remarkable contributions to Amateur Radio and honor the legacy he leaves behind.Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Janice, his family, friends, and the entire Radio Amateurs of Canada organization during this difficult time.73 Brent.
