I analyze how thinkers like Aristotle, John Stuart Mill and Alexis de Tocqueville thought that majority rule would problematize democracy.  

I also place the idea of the 'tyranny of the majority' in a modern context to answer a central question: How democratic is modern democracy when the populace is overcome with fear, emotion and hysteria?
