I never thought I would get to speak to someone in the legendary Californian city of Fresno. I always though it was short for a bigger title too, but turns out to be Spanish for Ash tree. Eve Reliand who claimed the name Autistic Bad Ass Activist before anyone else, kindly spoke to me for my podcast.Eve is best introduced as an autistic activist, artist, writer and parent. she is the founder of InternationalBadassActivists (one word for all you autistic pendants out there), and a co-founder of the Autistic Co operative. Eve started writing for self advocacy in 2005 and launched her first campaign around autism in 2008. Eve's goals are to make a better future for all autistic s born today, amplify divergent voices and document just what has been going on in the world of autism but from our perspective rather than the neurotypical curing parent one that seems to want absolute domination over every narrative and agenda known. Her wonderful films on social media must be seen to be believed. History will be very glad that Eve has gone to the effort that she has. Carly Jones MBE is a single mother of three daughters, the eldest of which is 23. A fact that she reckons entitles her to a sainthood, never mind being made a Member of the British Empire for services to autistic people (well at least the British Crown recognises us as such).Carly's story found her alone against all the odds raising three children, and later in life finding out through them that she was autistic. She has gone on to support many autistic people as a mentor and...wait for it... is a Keynote speaker, a presenter, an author, a UK Policy Safeguarding professional and...yet there is more...is on numerous advisory boards like the National Autistic Society, The Barbican London, Autistica Insights, NHS England Immunisation Board, Heathrow Airport, Motability Consumer Group, East Midlands Rail and as if that aint enough she finds time to. (take a breath now) be an Independent Member of the Ministry of Justice (that sounds very Judge Dredd doesnt it?) Our Majesty the Queens Community and Voluntary Honours Committee UK, Royal Society of Arts fellow, Co chair of the Executive Steering group with National Autistic Society and Royal Menace for the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training of all U.K. NHS Health and Social Care Staff. Not finished yet. She was voted one of the top 100 U.K. female entrepreneurs as well. No really. She's been on the BBC and independently reviews scholastic articles for Springer publications. If that's not informed you, try her twitter - CarlyJonesMBE and if you STILL need more, I think it's best you email her on Carly on [email protected] you.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. Yes, Ash drew the t shirt I am wearing for the 2019 Guerilla Aspies show at the Edinburgh Festival fringe. Note also his perfect t shirt? If you know horror illustration the world over, you know Ash London's work. He's legendary. Now meet the late diagnosed autistic man behind the almighty back catalogue of images our planet can barely contain. Meet his remarkable neurodivergent family. Oh I'm sorry I forgot that advocates like myself are not supposed to be interested in the relatively disabled autistic? Silly me - everyone is here in all forms of so called functionality. Oops!Ash is best described by his own hand: Taking in everything from art for 2001 Maniacs, The Welcoming, conceptual art for The Poet in Exile, FrightFest, Cine Excess festival, Stealth Aspies theatre company, design for the Get Your Genki record label, the Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick exhibition, Glasgow Museums and Glasgow Science Centre & the Tax Shelter Terrors documentary, concept & art for Scottish Autism's Autitude magazine plus portraits for Cameron Diaz, Kirk Jones and David Hess along the way. He's very good!!!! He's very autism positive. He has got great family and great hair. As featured on Feedspot.com's list of top Neurodiversity Podcasts. :)https://blog.feedspot.com/neurodiversity_podcasts/. COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] Dalmayne has assisted the British Police to find, question and even arrest parents and people who put their childrens live in danger through unregulated treatments that are supposed to 'cure' them of being autistic. She has often done this by infiltrating social groups dedicated to such aims, finding out who people are and then reporting them. As seen on the BBC, Channel 4, in the Guardian, Times and Daily Mail newspapers. The unique and I think history making autistic advocate Emma Dalmayne finally gets time to talk to me on the phone. That took some doing.Emma and I have been friends for many years and I have not been podcasting for a while, really because I was after speaking to her. I think her work around exposing the practices of injecting CHL Chlorine Dioxide into the anuses of small children, which killed a UK child, is life saving. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2007/jul/10/usa.edpilkington and https://www.vice.com/en/article/kwxq3w/parents-are-giving-their-children-bleach-enemas-to-cure-them-of-autism-311Quoting the New York Times:...the “bleach cures” movement. The Genesis II Church and Kerri Rivera, among others, have been selling products like chlorine dioxide, marketed as “Miracle Mineral Solution,” or M.M.S., stating that the substances will cure autism, acne, cancer, diabetes, Covid-19 and so much more. This is a crucial red flag for pseudoscience: When a product claims it can cure anything, it’s a fake.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/26/opinion/coronavirus-bleach-trump-autism.htmlWith six children, several of them at home to with her, Emma has started her own organisation to support both parents and autistic children with regular South London playgroups and meet ups. She has published two books and has spoken on radio and television. She has been consulted by Government in the UK Parliament and only this year was thanked during a meeting in the Palace of Westminster, over the regulation of dangerous practices aimed at 'treating' autistic children. In the belief that this would stop them being what they are. Emma as acted undercover for many years, infiltrating huge online social groups of parents who are secretively putting their own children health and lives at risk. All under the delusion that it will stop them being what they describe as autistic. Emma has taken a lot of personal abuse from such people and has received more threats than I would care to mention on here. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/jul/13/fake-cures-autism-prove-deadlyhttps://autisticinclusivemeets.org/about-us/emma-dalmayne/I am proud to call Emma my friend and I hope to carry on supporting her work in the future. Even if it means we have to get ourselves a bit roughed up facing others. Ah well, that's being old Liverpudlian or Scouser for you. We tend to find ourselves at the sharp end... ;)COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. (My wife and I followed the original NCIS for years). It was great to catch up with George from his home in Los Angeles. Lockdown style 2020. COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] 2020 I found myself in a hot debate whilst using the @StealthAspies Twitter account with some advocates in the USA who could never tolerate the idea that disability is relative to autistic people. For them the term autism was absolutely synonymous with disability and disorder.I made the acquantanceship of Jeff Fullington, a Seattle based autism advocate and asked him to podcast with me. Jeff is an interesting and passionate man who wants to create communities, both in person and virtually and seeks to bring people together and promote a positive NeuroDivergent identity the world over.Jeff is from the Cajun culture and community and his current project is a Discord - Server platform called The Red Door. He is also working on a website, blog and podcasting platform that other autistic people will be able to use to share their work. The discord link is https://discord.gg/AmTubn9 and the info site for it is https://sites.google.com/view/the-red-doorWARNING: We end up spending a lot of time talking about our shared love of late 70's/early 80's music. As a first generation Liverpool Punk Rocker, I consider this a right and proper use of my podcast time. Thereafter at the end Jeff details his work so it's worth getting to the very end to hear that. Thank you Jeff. :)COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. Hosted on Acast. A very good friend of mine speaking all the way from Tel Aviv Israel, Chen 'Globetrotter' Gershuni has had a huge, invisible influence on the planets autistic advocacy through his tireless and selfless translation work as much as becoming a major hub of positive self advocacy. Chen is renown the world over online and is a regular on the UK's Autscape event. He is also a musician and player of the stick. Look 'em up.He's a brilliant man and a lot quieter and smarter than me. Which of course is saying a great deal, etcetera. I caught him in his living room.During the podcast you will hear a reference to a man called Jonathan Mitchell being interviewed on a YouTube channel that I name as Autism One. In fact I got the name wrong. It was the Autism Live Channel. This interview is worth seeing on account of the sheer paradox that Mitchell presents in platforming himself as an autistic person who stands against anyone being positive about their autistic natures. When he himself clearly presents as someone who can work around the limits of his autistic nature, as he sees it limiting him. Now, what he refuses to acknowledge is that others can have equally valid but different opinions. The eerie inability to stop seeing his opinion as the ONLY one that should be seen and believed in life. The total inability to concede and see anything in the arguments and statements of others.Mitchell is a full time troll who relentlessly criticises anyone on mainly Twitter that he disagrees with. He has had substantial mainstream media coverage and cannot understand that he represents a schism in the greater Neurodiversity Movement that he both rejects and considers himself not to be part of. I see the term Neurodiversity Movement as a metaphor. Not a card carrying organisation. Notice also, the way that he uses the term Neurodiversity Movement as he wants it to be seen.Mitchell is actually part of a visible, online group of what are clearly his close personal friends. A phenomena he keeps saying that he cannot have or enjoy.https://youtu.be/X9zD_RK6-swWhat is weird is that Mitchell states how much he has been attacked and insulted, without any reference to what he's been doing to people. Even when they did not know. He's rather fond of relentlessly criticising people who have blocked him and have no idea he's doing it.Poor Jonathan is a fine example of how in the world of social media, people do not seem to be able to understand that their ideas and statements can be seen in completely different ways to how they think they should be.The Autism Live channel is a very dubious thing. The presenter was found by me in one episode, staring in awe at Andrew Wakefield and Del Bigtree, his Dr Goebells, doing their usual material on how the vaccines their own bodies were doubtless full of (certainly Wakefields if not Bigtree. His zealous preacher parents may not have had him protected) were potentially dangerous and even lethal. This film is no longer findable. It appears to be run by the C.A.R.D or Centre of Autism and Related Disorders, the boss of which appeared in the Andrew Wakefield paranoid conspiracy theory medical science fiction film Vaxxed 1. For the tenth podcast I would like to introduce to you all over the planet Earth, the Autistic Trans Parent and Artist Alexandra Forshaw. We discuss trying to cope with the best university in Britain, finding out just how much don't fit and how much the NeuroDivergent community has given Alexandria a community and a positive identity. Hell, a real one more like.Do we all spend our lives compromising and following social protocols that demand we become to varying degrees, someone and something we are not? Then to go on to live as such for the rest of our lives. Sometimes blissfully unaware of how much we compromise ourselves. I think so. But not everyone is lucky enough to uncover and come to live in alignment with their own reality in all its forms. (This is a rather Buddhist way of putting it).Its now August 2020 and I an not at the Edinburgh Festival doing my long running show, which is a great shame. However a link to the Stealth Aspies performance at the Marlborough Theatre in Brighton 2019 is available to be seen as part of the online Edinburgh Free Fringe. Just search for it on there. :)Please contact me via [email protected] and [email protected] this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. It was my honour to interview Billie Jo Gibson, who stepped up and took on the responsibility for the Liverpool Autism Pride event a few years ago. She is also the webmanager for Neurodivergent Labour. We all come from somewhere. A place that makes us. I come from the city of Liverpool. As we 'Scousers' say, a boss interview with Billie la.Life can be a huge journey. Billie takes us on her's from a young diagnosis to her creative life and unflinching political stanch. One day people will take for granted the effort and sacrifices that activists like Billie Jo have had to go through. For now, please enjoy this little bit of history. I sometimes think the people who started it all and took on the world in their own small way, were never rewarded by the future's view of just how significant their actions were. Billie, take courage and pride that when I was a child in the 1970's no one knew anything about being autistic like they do now. But in the future your work will go on and mean so much to people like us. Please enjoy.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] of three, Scientist, award winning comedian, actor and producer. Dr Ria Lina is one unique autistic person. Funny too.Of German and Phillipino ancestry, growing up in the UK, the USA and the Netherlands.Ria has a BSc in Experimental Pathology, an MSc in Forensic Science, and a PhD in Viral Bioinformatics. She worked as an IT Forensic Investigator for the Serious Fraud Office too, so don't try anything funny online with her.Ria is a winner of the EMMA (Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy) award, She is known for her television appearances in The World Stands Up, Mega Mela Malai Comedy and Sweet n Sour on BBC3. She has been an Edinburgh Festival regular which is how come we could discuss the Free Fringe and the people we mention. Tricity is a friend of ours and a brilliant performer in her own right, who kind of brought us together (It was her Bluestockings Cabaret we were both doing things upon. Oooer..)SUBSCRIBE TO RIA'S PODCAST - RIA LINA'S BEHIND ON ITUNES AND EVERYWHERE.I see Ria as yet another example of how autistic people, once diagnosed and immersed into the greater Autistic media and metaphorical Neurodiversity Movement, become clearly defined in their opinions and politics about everything NeuroDivergent. It seems to be an organic thing.COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? [email protected] this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. Hosted on Acast.
