Tender curiosities:
- What does it mean to be “normal” again, and how long does it take to get there?
- What’s really happening when the outside facade of us doesn’t match the inside?
- Can we re-imagine the cultural norm for how we “do grief”, creating space for the metamorphosis from caterpillar soup?
What does our culture believe it means to be a widow? She’s an old, creepy crone living on the edge of her community. No one really talks to her. She’s probably stealing your children. She might be stealing your husband too. She can’t be trusted. She’s poor. She’s sad. She’s lonely. This is reflected in nearly every children’s fairytale. This mythology sneaks into our consciousness. If we aren’t careful, it sneaks into our identity too – who we are, who we are becoming, and who we are allowed to be.
