Life is a journey — mountains, valleys, vista points, and a whole lot of weight we weren't meant to carry. As we close out our Enjoying the Journey series, we look at Hebrews 12:1-2 and the race that's set before us. The writer of Hebrews knew what it was like to grow tired — to feel the pull to quit. His answer wasn't try harder. It was lay aside the weight, and fix your eyes on Jesus. Some of what we're carrying is sin. Some of it is simply weight — things that aren't wrong, but still slow us down. Either way, the course isn't what defeats us. The unnecessary weight does.Jesus never asked us to carry it alone. He carried the cross so we wouldn't have to carry the guilt. Guilt points to the brick. Shame carries the brick. Jesus takes the brick. This week, we're reminded that we enjoy our journey best — not by running faster or carrying more — but by keeping our eyes on the One who's already run the race for us.Lay aside the weight. Fix your eyes on Christ. Keep running your race.
