The ICGP, with the support of the HSE and the Department of Health, has begun the non-EU Rural GPprogramme, an initiative to enable non-EU highly qualified GPs to work in mostly single-handed GP practices in rural Ireland. With the continuing shortage of GPs and growing workforce pressures, the ICGP's Medical Director, Dr Diarmuid Quinlan, explains the context behind this initiative.
