The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, used to belong to Sarah Winchester. She led construction work on the property for 38 unrelenting years. Why? She wanted to create a house so crazy, so difficult to navigate, that it would confuse any apparitions that intended to do her harm. She'd inherited the Winchester rifle fortune and after the death's of her young daughter and husband - she believed the victims of her family's rifles would harm her if they could get to her.
