Jesus told the Parable of the Sower to reveal a simple but profound truth: the Gospel is like a seed, and the human heart is the soil. The farmer scatters seed everywhere without prejudice, because the Gospel is available to whoever is willing to receive it. When that seed takes root in a willing heart, the transformation is so dramatic that only God can take credit for it. But there are real enemies working against that growth, including worry, the love of wealth, the desire for comfort, and shallow faith that never goes deep. Jesus named these enemies so we would not be caught off guard by them. The question worth sitting with is this: what kind of soil is your heart right now?
